Set in the heart of Florida’s Gold Coast, Pompano Beach boasts warm, brilliantly blue water, miles of vibrant natural coral reef, and a lineup of storied shipwrecks. With the Gulf Stream often delivering ideal conditions, drift diving along these reefs is as effortless as it is unforgettable.

Beneath the surface, Pompano’s reefs brim with life—soft corals swaying in the current, schools of grunts and angelfish flashing by, the occasional turtle cruising past. On many dives you’ll spot eels peeking from ledges and rays skimming the sand, with seasonal sightings of larger pelagics when conditions line up.

The wrecks here are equally memorable. From photogenic artificial reefs to deeper, more advanced profiles, each site offers distinct routes, relief, and resident marine life. Paired with gentle Gulf Stream currents, these dives become relaxed, scenic drifts where the ocean does the moving and you do the marveling.

Lou Barber

Louis “Lou” Barber is a Master Scuba Diver Trainer serving the Pompano/North Lauderdale area, known for transparent, safety-first instruction and a family-style classroom. After 25 years of service—United States Marine Corps, United States Army, and two decades with the Baltimore City Sheriff’s Department—Lou brings the same discipline and values (honor, courage, commitment, loyalty, integrity) to every dive. Since starting in 2012, he’s pursued broad training across recreational and technical disciplines and now mentors divers at every level, from first breath underwater to advanced specialties and guided drift and wreck dives.

Fantastic Scuba Teacher

Lou Barber is a fantastic scuba teacher. He refreshed my skills in the pool. We went on the boat. It was choppy. When I got in the water in was ok. Waiting for my husband to get in. Problems with his regulator caused the delay. Water was choppy triggering trauma muscle memory. He saved my life. I panicked in the water and his expertise got me back to the boat. And on the boat safely. Thank you to Scuba fun for all their expertise and wisdom.

Scuba Training Programs

Try Scuba

SDI Try Scuba is a pool-based introduction that lets you experience scuba in a confined-water setting under an instructor—no prior experience required.

SDI Junior Open Water

Ages 10–14: age-appropriate class, pool, and supervised open-water training for safe, confident first dives.

Open Water Diver

Entry-level certification course teaching the necessary skills to dive up to 60ft depths.

Rescue Diver

This course will get you ready to deal with minor and major dive emergencies.

Specialty Diver

Earn SDI Specialty Diver by completing any two SDI specialties and logging 25 dives—recognizing deeper skills (e.g., navigation, deep, photography) and expanded experience.

Extended Range Nitrox Diving

Extend your bottom time with high-O₂ nitrox (up to 100%) while learning advanced planning, staged decompression, and multi-cylinder use.

Advanced Open Water

Designed to improve and expand upon your underwater knowledge and skills.

Master Scuba Diver

This final certification in recreational diving recognizes your advanced experience.

Dive Master

A Divemaster certification qualifies you to lead and assist other divers professionally, serving as the step just below instructor level.

Public Safety

Our Public Safety Diving services assist law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency response teams with underwater search and recovery operations.
